About Us
A family-run business since 1982
DADC was born in 1982 when Roger Perry wiped out on his motorcycle. The love of racing was on Roger’s face that day when he entered the tight right-hand turn at Rockingham Motor Speedway in North Carolina. Then he hit a small patch of oil. His bike slid out from under him, sending him facedown 80 miles an hour across the pavement.
The moment of the accident, Roger expected to stand up and walk away, as he did on wipeouts in the past. Unfortunately, another rider was trailing him. Roger was snatched up under his motorcycle, shattering his spine and taking away the use of his legs.
After a year of extensive surgeries, Roger emerged from his body cast ready for occupational therapy. This included lessons on how to drive using hand controls. However, the controls offered in the training vehicle at the rehab center were clunky, difficult to operate and distracting from the task at hand, driving.
At the time of Roger’s injury, his father William Perry was nearing retirement from Sperry UNIVAC, now UNISYS, as a manager of large computer systems development. His son’s frustration with the existing hand controls got William’s wheels turning. He was an engineer and in his younger days, he was a tool and die maker and draftsman. A car enthusiast, William had also restored four Mercedes Benz in his spare time.
He knew there had to be a better way for his son to regain his independence on the road.
Together, they built a better hand control, one that was designed to withstand the rigors of the racetrack not only the road. The result is DADC’s patented vacuum assisted twist grip hand control. Since then, DADC has designed, built and installed hand controls for drivers worldwide.
Today DADC President Lee Perry, William’s son, continues to honor the philosophy of its founder with superior engineering, quality materials, streamline installs and safe and easy operation at an affordable price.
Innovation continues at DADC with the hand control-equipped Game Wheel. Developed in 2007, the DADC Game Wheel offers wheelchair gamers access to the online racing world.
With the DADC game wheel, wheelchair gamers have access to an online world populated by real gamers, a world until now populated by only pedal-pushing drivers. In a rehabilitation setting, disabled drivers such as veterans, learn how to drive while they play, and perfect their driving skills in a safe environment.
