Hudson Hornet Mobility Adventure
Adventure is medicine
What do a Marine wounded in battle, a mother diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, and a teenager injured in a car accident all have in common? Their lives were forever altered by disability.
The rise of adaptive sports has demonstrated how recreation can help people living with disabilities adjust. By having fun, getting physical, and making new friends they discover what life can be like, how to reach for their dreams, and achieve their potential. DADC is restoring and adapting a 1952 Hudson Hornet convertible and inviting people living with disabilities to drive it. For people struggling with life’s journey and for wounded warriors who sacrificed so much on our behalf, driving the Hudson is their opportunity to make disability disappear for a spell, live life in the moment, and create a lasting memory. All behind the wheel of an American classic. The Hudson belonged to DADC owner, Lee Perry’s father-in-law, Gene Smith. It was the car he courted his wife in, and the car they brought home their daughter Cheryl, my wife, in, when she was born. His plans for restoration were dashed when he suffered a stroke, leaving him paralyzed. With Gene’s restoration plan in hand, and all of the parts preserved and categorized, DADC is working with Jon Schuchart Customs in Columbia, PA to complete the restoration. DADC will outfit the Hudson with its suite of hand controls so people can drive with their hand control of choice.
Through a series of “arrive and drive” events, DADC intends to put people living with disabilities behind the wheel, engage disabled driving enthusiasts as “pit crews”, and map a coast to coast drive to raise awareness about disability. By putting miles on the Hudson, we intend to change the lives of anyone living with disability who may be facing a dark vision of the future. Our Sponsors

Hudson Meet in Berkeley Springs, WV
In April, we traveled to lovely Berkeley Springs, WV for the Annual Hudson Club Meet. What an incredible experience to be surrounded by Hudson’s just like ours, all restored and on the road! But the heart of the gathering was truly the people, so many friendly extraordinary experts who are advised us and expressed their interest in lending a hand with our restoration and the Hudson Hornet Mobility Adventure.
A big thank you to Jim and Sandy Boyle for extending the invitation and throwing a great party. Jim’s collection of Hudson memorabilia rivals any museums, from car parts and car dealer signs to just about every model Hudson ever sold. And we were thrilled to discover our little Hudson Hornet Crayons in a place of honor among them!
On a personal note, we highly recommend the Roman Bath at Berkeley Springs State Park!
Next stop - Doc's Meet in Front Royal, VA!
